National Student Exchange

Experience a different part of North America

Did you want to go to college out-of-state but just couldn’t afford the tuition? Now you can. Check out the National Student Exchange (NSE), an education program that provides affordable opportunities for UW-Eau Claire students to study and live at one of more than 200 member campuses located in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

NSE allows you to expand your academic options while maintaining program towards your degree. Some students choose a NSE school because it offers courses not offered at UW-Eau Claire, such as sports management. Other students find it is a great way to learn more about a community or region where they may want to do an internship or get a full-time job after graduation.

UW-Eau Claire students accepted to the NSE program maintain their status at UW-Eau Claire while spending a semester or academic year at their chosen host institution.  As a NSE student, you will pay your normal UW-Eau Claire tuition and fees.  An advising agreement completed prior to your departure helps ensure that course work you take at the host institution will transfer back to UW-Eau Claire.

Approximately 3,500 students nationwide will study at nearly 200 universities in 49 states, the Virgin Islands, Guam, Canada, and Puerto Rico this year through the National Student Exchange Program (NSE).
