Student Professional Development Program

The Student Professional Development Program is a series of non-credit workshops designed to give business students the skills they need to present themselves in a professional manner throughout their career.

The Student Professional Development Program consists of four workshops: Becoming a Business Professional, Professional Appearance, Developing your Professional Profile, and Professional Etiquette (see descriptions below). The workshops are a graduation requirement for all College of Business majors.

Student Professional Development Program Workshops

Becoming a Business Professional Workshop

To be completed FRESHMAN year. Topics covered in this workshop include

  • Welcome/Introduction to College of Business
  • Introduction to Personal Leadership Development
  • Goal-Setting and Time Management
  • Introduction to CADE Advisors and Plan

Workshop fee: $18.75

Professional Appearance Workshop

To be completed FRESHMAN year. Topics covered in this workshop include

  • Professional attire
  • Business Casual/Business Professional/Formal attire
  • Accessorizing/Grooming/General Appearance Guidelines
  • Interview Preparation/Impressions

Workshop fee: $16.50

Developing Your Professional Profile Workshop

To be completed SOPHOMORE year. Topics covered in this workshop include

  • Discovering Your Strengths
  • Identifying Your Target Audience
  • Matching Your Strengths and Interest to Your Target Audience
  • Personal Branding: Learning How to Sell Yourself

Workshop fee: $25.00

Professional Etiquette Workshop

To be completed SOPHOMORE year. (Completion of BCOM 405 may be substituted for this workshop.) Topics covered in this workshop include

  • Networking/Working a Room
  • Preparing for an Event/Pre-dinner Etiquette
  • The Place Setting/Dining styles/Serving Order/The Meal
  • Tipping/Toasting/Ending a Meal/Do’s and Don’ts

Includes a 5-course meal. If you have special dietary needs or restrictions, email spdp@uwec.edu at least 3 days prior to the workshop.

Workshop Fee: $38.75 (includes meal)

Suggested Attire

Students are strongly encouraged to present themselves in a professional manner at each workshop. BUSINESS CASUAL ATTIRE IS RECOMMENDED. (No jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, etc.) Business casual may include a polo and khakis for men and khakis or dress pants and a nice button up shirt or blouse for women. Workshops involve professionals from the community. Every contact you make should form a positive and professional impression.
