Meet Hannah Gaspar, 2014 College of Business Emerging Leader

“Hannah has all of the traits we associate with great leaders,” said Matt Fish, associate lecturer of accounting. “What separates Hannah from her classmates is her humble nature, her burning desire to give back to her community, her courage to challenge the status quo, and her ability to rally those around her for the cause of the common good.”

A two-week summer internship at Abdo, Eick, & Meyers, LLP solidified her desire to become an accountant, a career she believes will utilize her skills to their fullest potential and allow her to contribute to clients in a meaningful way.

Gaspar has put her many talents to use this semester as a member of the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition (ICBSC) team. The ICBSC is a business simulation where students experience what it is like to run a manufacturing company in head-to-head competition. » Learn more http://www.uwec.edu/COB/info/news/2014_2_28a.htm

“The ICBSC has been an amazing educational experience that has really challenged my thinking and allowed me to grow professionally,” said Gaspar. “Not only has my team and I learned how to run our own company, but we also got to experience the synergy and the excitement that comes from a group effort.”

While Gaspar is driven to excel academically, she is also committed to giving back to others. She credits her parents for instilling in her a passion for volunteering. Gaspar volunteers in organizations focused on academics, leadership and service, such as the Student Accounting Society, National Society of Leadership and Success, Golden Key International Honour Society, and Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting and finance honorary society. She is also an accounting mentor in the college’s Center for Advising, Development, and Enrichment (CADE).

“I want to use my skills and talents to help others in the community, whether it is mentoring students in CADE, collecting books to donate to libraries or schools in need through Golden Key, or coaching a community U10 girls fastpitch softball team,” she said.

Gaspar’s future goals include sitting for the CPA examination and working for a public accounting firm in tax, assurance or forensic accounting. Eventually, she would like to complete an MBA.
