UW MBA Consortium ranks among best online graduate business programs

UW MBA ConsortiumFor the second year in a row, U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium Program among its “Best Online Graduate Business Programs.” The Consortium is ranked #41 in the nation which puts it in the top 20% of online graduate programs. It is the top ranked program among Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa universities, both public and private.

“We are extremely pleased with our ranking,” said Dr. Robert Erffmeyer, director of the UW Consortium MBA program. “Credit goes to the faculty and staff at our Consortium partner schools as well as our students whose dedication, academic credentials, GMAT scores, and course performance all contribute to the ranking.”

While the U.S. News and World Report has been ranking colleges and universities for the last 30 years, the publication has only ranked online graduate schools since 2013. The UW MBA Consortium has been ranked among the best both of those years.

The #1 criterion for rankings is student engagement which constitutes 33% of the overall ranking. One interesting component of this criterion is accreditation by AACSB, a distinguished hallmark of excellence achieved by less than 5% of all business schools in the world. The Consortium was reviewed by the AACSB in 2012 and was lauded by the international accrediting organization as a “unique and successful” program whose students highly rate the instruction, course content, and interactions with faculty and among faculty and students.”

Beyond AACSB accreditation, other elements of the student engagement criterion include such things as collaborative coursework and instructor availability, student retention rates, use of professional instructional designers, student evaluations and their response rates.

To develop its rankings, U.S. News also looks at admissions selectivity (20% of the overall ranking), peer reputation (20%), faculty credentials and training (13.5%), and student services and technology (13.5%).

The UW MBA Consortium has also been recognized by as a Best Buy in online MBA education, ranking among the top 35 AACSB accredited programs, moving up to the top 25 if schools charging higher tuition for out of state students are removed from the list.
