Jagemann named 2013 Outstanding MBA Student

Gregory Jagemann has been named the 2013 Outstanding MBA Student by the graduate faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business. An August 2012 graduate, Jagemann was selected from a pool of students that included graduates from August 2012, December 2012, January 2013, and May 2013.

He is the marketing manager for Jagemann Stamping, a full-service stamping company recognized world-wide as a leading manufacturer of deep drawn, progressive, and fine blanked stampings. The family-owned business is located in Manitowoc, WI.

As an undergraduate student at UW-Eau Claire, Jagemann worked with a team of tool and die makers on various machines for his family’s business. In 2007, he graduated from the university with a bachelor of business administration degree in operations/materials management and began his professional career at Tarkett USA, Inc. where he served as a national account analyst. In 2010, while still in Tarkett’s employ, he returned to UW-Eau Claire to seek his MBA.

As a graduate student, Jagemann took advantage of all the MBA program had to offer: he excelled in his classes; served as a graduate assistant, supporting faculty in their research; and travelled abroad on a summer study trip to China.

“Our products are exported around the world,” said Jagemann. “Adding the China summer program to my education really helped give me insight in building up international business relationships.”

He cites the modular structure of the MBA program and the experiences of his classmates for helping him develop the skills he needs to succeed in his current position. He also liked the mix of on-campus and online courses the program offered.

Jagemann will be recognized at the MBA Celebration Reception, Saturday May 18, 2013 in the UW-Eau Claire Davies Center Dakota Ballroom. The reception will begin immediately following the afternoon commencement ceremony.

Jagemann expressed surprise at being chosen as the Outstanding MBA Student.

“It wasn't because I consider myself a bad student,” he said. “But rather it was because we had such a great group of diverse students in our class.”

But Jagemann was the one individual faculty members most frequently identified as the ‘top student’ in the 2012–13 MBA graduating class, according to Dr. Robert Erffmeyer, UW-Eau Claire MBA director.

Dr. Kristy Lauver, chair of the Department of Marketing and Management Department, described Jagemann as “an outstanding student [who] puts his full effort into his work and studies. His positive personality and strong work ethic are wonderful to experience and will carry him far in life.”  She also referenced his skills as a research assistant, capable of taking an idea and running with it. Dr. Nancy Hansen-Rasmussen, senior lecturer in the Department of Management and Marketing, agreed, indicating that his ability to review literature and develop survey instruments was a great asset. Tom Mihajlov, lecture in the Department of Accounting and Finance, cited his “engaging personality” and service as “a class leader in many discussions.”

After completing his MBA, Jagemann returned to Jagemann Stamping where he is the now the marketing manager. He leads a manufacturing group that continues to grow in precision metal stampings while expanding into new markets. The family-owned company plans to add up to 100 jobs and a 50,000 square foot addition to its Manitowoc location over the course of 2013 and 2014.
