Nix named Outstanding Marketing Student; marketing and sales students recognized

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business marketing faculty hosted the May 2013 marketing graduates at a buffet dinner held in their honor, Wednesday, May 8, 2013. The event was held at the home of Dr. Joe Bonner, associate professor of marketing.

Kaitlin Nix, a senior marketing analytics major from Osseo, WI was named the May 2013 Outstanding Marketing Student. Nix also completed a certificate in Advanced Business Communication. She will graduate cum laude from the university at the May 2013 commencement ceremony. See box below to learn more about Nix.

Four students, who were also nominated for the award, were recognized at the event for their scholarship, leadership, and community service. These students were as follows:

  • Rylee Inks, a marketing analytics major from Fond du Lac, WI
  • Ryan Nicholls, a marketing major from Fennimore, WI
  • Krista Roble, a marketing major from Appleton, WI
  • Aaron Severson, a professional sales marketing major from Green Bay, WI.

In addition, eight students were recognized for completing the requirements for the Certified Sales Student certificate sponsored by the University Sales Center Alliance, a consortium of accredited sales programs across the country. These students were as follows:

  • Jordan Burnett, a professional sales marketing major from Center City, MN
  • Kellen Busey, a professional sales marketing major from Rochester, MN
  • Melissa Erickson, a professional sales marketing major from Schofield, WI
  • Samuel Mimier, a professional sales marketing major from Mukwonago, WI
  • Alexandra Roland, a marketing major from Wausau, WI
  • Aaron Severson, a professional sales marketing major from Green Bay, WI
  • Katrina Smith, a professional sales marketing major from Eau Claire, WI
  • Troy Stockland, a professional sales marketing major from Fall Creek, WI.

The Certified Sales Student certificate is awarded to students who go beyond the minimum course requirements in preparing themselves for successful sales jobs and careers. Any college student attending a USCA member school can earn this certificate by meeting the required coursework with authorized faculty and completing the extracurricular requirements which includes participation in internships, sales competitions, and professional training seminars.

Meet Kaitlin Nix

Kaitlin Nix“Kaitlin has demonstrated an almost inexhaustible stock of determination,” said Dr. Scott Swanson, faculty advisor for the UW-Eau Claire student chapter of the American Marketing Association. “She is often the first one to initiate an idea and the last one to give up. It is because of this determination that our AMA chapter was as successful as it was this past year.”

During Nix’s tenure as AMA president, the UW-Eau Claire student chapter was one of three student chapters in the United States to be named a ‘Gold Chapter’. Gold Chapter status recognizes excellence in professional development, community service, fundraising, communications, chapter operations, and membership activities. It is the first time the UW-Eau Claire chapter has received this honor.

Nix, who has been a member of AMA since 2011, has also served the organization as director of marketing services, a position which required her to oversee the work of the organization’s marketing consulting team, and as director of entertainment, where one of her responsibilities was to book bands and plan activities for the annual AMA Fun Run. She was also a member of the AMA case team that took second place in the 2012 AMA International Collegiate Case Competition, a yearlong event where top business students from across the United States developed an integrated marketing communication plan for Pearson, the world’s leading education company.

Nix furthered her knowledge of marketing by completing two internships, one as a management trainee with Enterprise Rent-A-Car and a second one as a sales representative intern with Universities Directories. In both positions she achieved top honors in customer service, lead generation and sales.

Nix will graduate cum laude from UW-Eau Claire in May 2013. She has accepted a position with Hormel Foods and will work in the company’s Detroit, MI office.

“Through her experience in AMA and her internships, Kaitlin developed the skills necessary for leadership—a positive attitude, a sense of responsibility, flexibility, and the ability to size up a situation and take action,” said Swanson. “These skills served her well at UW-Eau Claire and they will continue to serve her well in the future.”
