The students will be accompanied by UW-Eau Claire AMA student adviser, Dr. Scott Swanson, associate professor of marketing, Department of Management and Marketing. Swanson, who is also president of the 2012-13 AMA International Collegiate Chapter Council, will welcome attendees to the conference on March 21.
Nix and Connelly will present a session on professional development activities to other AMA student chapter leaders on March 22 and 23. Nix is president of the Silver award winning UW-Eau Claire AMA chapter; Connelly is vice president. Only six AMA chapters receive the Silver Award annually.
The UW-Eau Claire case team consisting of Dahl, Dankers, Roble and Wegner will compete against 10 universities in the final round of the 2013 AMA International Collegiate Case Competition on March 21. The Top 10 schools in addition to UW-Eau Claire are British Columbia Institute of Technology, Florida International University, Hofstra University, Portland State University, Texas State University-San Marcos, University of Arizona, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The AMA Case Competition is a yearlong event that brings together top business students to work on a marketing challenge submitted by a sponsoring organization. This year’s case required teams to develop an integrated marketing communications plan for Donate Life America, a nonprofit alliance of national organizations and local coalitions dedicated to educating the public about organ, eye and tissue donation.
In addition to the case competition, UW-Eau Claire students will compete during the conference in the SABRE Business Simulation (March 21), a new marketing strategy competition (March 22), and the Northwestern Mutual Sales Competition (March 23). The UW-Eau Claire AMA chapter has also submitted entries for six events which will be judged prior to the conference.
The winners of most of the competitions will be announced at the Competition Ceremony, Friday, March 22. The recipients of the Platinum Chapter of the Year, AMA Student Marketer of the Year (sponsored by Macy’s), Northwestern Mutual Sales Competition, Hugh G. Wales Faculty Advisor of the Year Award, and Lifetime Achievement will be announced at the Collegiate Chapters awards banquet, Saturday, March 23.
