Foyt named 2013 College of Business Emerging Leader
Nicole Foyt, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professional sales marketing student from Eden Prairie, MN, has been named the 2013 College of Business Emerging Leader by the business college faculty and staff. Foyt will graduate in May 2014.
The Emerging Leader award is presented to a current business student who is not graduating in 2013 and who has shown early leadership and potential for success. Students were nominated for this award by College of Business faculty and staff.
“I am so extremely honored to have been nominated for this award,” said Foyt.
Foyt will be recognized at the 2013 University Student Excellence Awards reception on Wednesday, May 8 at 5 pm in the Davies Center Ojibwe Ballroom (Room 330). The reception is hosted by the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association, UW-Eau Claire Foundation, and UW-Eau Claire University Centers.
Meet Nicole Foyt, 2013 College of Business Emerging Leader
“I have always been the type of person to “jump right in” on anything and I so enjoy a good challenge,” said Nicole Foyt, the 2013 UW-Eau Claire College of Business Emerging Leader.
Her determination was especially evident during the Northern Illinois University (NIU) Sales Competition. Foyt, who is a member of the UW-Eau Claire Sales Team, was one of 20 students selected from a pool of 146 students from around the country to compete in the NIU Sales Championship Round, February 21-23, 2013. She finished 11th overall.
To qualify for the championship round, Foyt competed in three elimination rounds (voice mail call, appointment call, inside sales call) during the fall 2012 semester. At the championship round in February 2013, she participated in a live telephone call to set her first appointment, two role plays for Adobe Connect software, two elevator pitches to two different individuals, and a reverse job fair which required her to build a tabletop display promoting herself to recruiters.
“If it sounds like a lot of work, it was,” said Jerry Kollross, UW-Eau Claire Sales Team coach. “I was very proud of Nicole and her efforts through this entire contest which started with her first phone call on October 15th. Just making it to the Championship Round this spring demonstrated that she was already a winner.”
Foyt currently is an annual giving intern for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation where she works on fundraising campaigns for the senior class gift and the Blugold Marching Band. She is a team lead volunteer for The PROP Shop, a resale store and nonprofit that helps families in need in the southwest suburbs of Minneapolis. Foyt has also completed two internship: one with the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce where she helped produce the chamber’s successful “Shop Local Program“, and a second internship with RAZR Marketing, a full-service marketing research and consulting firm in Minneapolis.
She is director of corporate sponsorships for the American Marketing Association, academic chair for the Delta Zeta sorority, and a member of four honor societies. In addition, she has worked as a Freshman First Year Experience classroom mentor and she has studied abroad in Scotland.
Foyt’s career goals include working for a Fortune 500 company in a position that she is “extremely passionate about” and that allows her to use the communication and leadership skills she developed at UW-Eau Claire.
“UW-Eau Claire has prepared me for the bigger picture,” said Foyt. “I look forward to all the exciting opportunities in front of me!”
