Three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire marketing students will represent UW-Eau Claire at the 15th National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC). The competition will be held March 1-4, 2013 at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA.
Undergraduate students from 65 schools will compete at the 2013 NCSC. Graduate students from seven graduate programs will compete in a separate event. The top four individuals receive monetary awards and gifts. The top ten schools are awarded wood plaques.
Competing for UW-Eau Claire are Melissa Erickson, a senior professional sales marketing major from Schofield, WI; and Cameron Walther, a senior professional sales marketing major from Whitefish Bay, WI. Jerry Kollross, UW-Eau Claire Department of Management and Marketing, is the faculty coach. Team alternate Samuel Mimier, a senior professional sales marketing major from Mukwonago, WI, is the student coach.
“After last year’s tie for fifth runner-up, the UW-Eau Claire sales team has very high expectations for this year,” said Kollross. “Our students have worked hard to prepare for this event, and they are ready to perform at a high level this weekend.”
To get ready for the competition, the UW-Eau Claire team practiced sales calls every Friday afternoon with Kollross. They also received individual coaching from him during the week.
"We made it a point to know anything and everything about the product," said Erickson. "No stone was left unturned. We have done the work, now it's time to go in there and tear it up!"
All three UW-Eau Claire students competed at the 2012 Great Northwoods Sales Warm-Up held November 8-10. Walther was named the 2012 Overall Champion. Erickson was the First Runner-Up, and Alecia Hitchman from Bowling Green State University, came in second place.
“Sales competitions are always subjective by nature,” said Kollross, “But I feel we will meet our team goals by having fun and giving our best sales role play of the year at nationals. It is my hope the judges will once again recognize the sales talent we have at UW-Eau Claire.”
Win or lose, the competition is an experience of a lifetime for the UW-Eau Claire team.
"I couldn't be happier going to Atlanta with the team I have," added Erickson. "It is, hands down, the most important thing I will ever do in my college career."
