The Cadets and Cadre of the Northwoods Battalion of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) will hold a Spring Commissioning Ceremony, Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 2pm in the Crystal Ballroom of the University of Wisconsin-Stout Memorial Student Center. A small reception will follow at 2:40 pm.

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Senior Cadets Ryan Matchey and Jack Dillow will receive commissions at the event.

Matchey, a professional sales marketing major and management minor from Centerville, MN, will commission into the Arizona Army National Guard as an aviation officer. Upon graduation, Matchey will complete the Aviation Basic Officer Leadership Course and flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama where he will learn to fly the AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter.

“The College of Business and Army ROTC have prepared me for leadership roles in the United States Army and the business world,” said Matchey. “My business classes and my internship with Northwestern Mutual have given me the tools I need for a career in marketing and sales leading to a position in sales management. As a senior cadet in the Northwoods Battalion, I have learned to always hold myself accountable. My experience also has taught me the importance of communication and teamwork, and it has developed my understanding of leadership beyond what I ever thought I would experience during my undergraduate career. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's level of "Excellence" is producing the best candidates in the country for today's job market, and I am proud to be a graduate of this university.”

Dillow, a music major and Middle East studies minor from Glenwood City, WI, will commission into the United States Army as an Infantry 2nd Lieutenant with a 7-year commitment on active duty.

“ROTC has set my career and life in motion and in a way geared towards success,” said Dillow. “Even though I will be a leader in the military—bearing the responsibility of the lives of others—I know that as long as I maintain a positive attitude, treat others with respect, constantly learn, and strive to do the right thing, there will be no obstacle that cannot be overcome. It has been a great experience, and I hope that others enjoy their time learning how to succeed in the present, and in the future!”
