Anne Montgomery to speak at CHAASE Spring Banquet; Bart Starr sidelined for health reasons

Anne Montgomery“Elevating the View of Our Noble Profession for Leaders Today and Tomorrow”, is the theme of the 2012 Annual Center for Health Care Administration and Aging Services Excellence (CHAASE) Spring Banquet. The event will be held Thursday, April 19th at the Plaza Hotel & Suites, 1202 W. Clairemont Ave, Eau Claire, WI.

Legendary Green Bay Packer quarterback and coach Bart Starr was scheduled to give the banquet's keynote address. Although, he expressed his sincere regrets he will no longer be able to attend the banquet for health reasons.

Anne Montgomery, senior policy advisor for the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, will step in for Mr. Starr as the key note speaker at the dinner.

“We are very excited to have Anne Montgomery as our keynote speaker”, said Dr. Doug Olson, associate director of health care administration and director of CHAASE. “Anne has played a leadership role in the development of policy related to long-term care and has a keen interest in the development of senior care leaders as evidenced by her active support of the National Emerging Leadership Summit. Her insights are especially timely given the current political debate over health care reform in the United States.”

Prior to her present position, Ms. Montgomery was as a senior health policy associate with the Alliance for Health Reform in Washington, D.C., where she played a key role in writing and editing policy publications and designing public briefings and conferences for congressional staff and other stakeholders. She served as a senior analyst in public health at the U.S. Government Accountability Office and as a legislative aide to Congressman Pete Stark of the Ways & Means Health Subcommittee. Ms. Montgomery was an Atlantic Fellow in Public Policy in London in 2001-2002, where she undertook comparative research on long-term care in the U.S. and the UK. She also worked as a journalist covering the National Institutes of Health and Congress during the 1990s. Ms. Montgomery has an MS in journalism from Columbia University and a BA in English literature from the University of Virginia, and has done gerontology coursework at Johns Hopkins University.

The Eighth Annual Practicum Open House will be held at 5 pm at the Plaza Hotel. Similar to a job or internship fair, the Practicum Open House exposes students to organizations that hire HCAD students as practicum interns and full time employees.

Immediately after the Practicum Open House, a social hour will be held at 6 pm with dinner to follow at 7 pm.
