
Former UW-Eau Claire COB student and hockey standout to receive award
Former University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire hockey player John Kearns, will receive the university’s Super Six Salute Award at the 2011 UW-Eau Claire Blugold Hall of Fame/Super Six Awards Banquet, Saturday, September 24. Currently, he plays professional hockey for the Idaho Steelheads.
While at UW-Eau Claire, Kearns was a healthcare administration major and business finance minor.
Kearns was co-recipient of the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Men’s Ice Hockey Scholar-Athlete Award.
A senior from Park Ridge, Il, Kearns was a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and was named to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) All-Academic Team following the 2009-10 season. Kearns also has been recognized on UW-Eau Claire’s Dean’s List.
Kearns received All-NCHA honorable mention laurels during the 2010-11 season. In 2010, he secured All-WIAC first team recognition and All-NCHA honorable mention accolades. He was named the Blugold Freshman of the Year in 2008.
