UW-Eau Claire HCAD senior Johnathan Kearns Receives WIAC Student-Athlete Award
Johnathan Kearns, a senior UW-Eau Claire health care administration major and business finance minor, is co-recipient of the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Men’s Ice Hockey Scholar-Athlete Award.
A senior from Park Ridge, Il, Kearns carries a 3.48 grade point average. He is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and was named to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) All-Academic Team following the 2009-10 season. Kearns also has been recognized on UW-Eau Claire’s Dean’s List.
A team captain the past two years, Kearn received All-NCHA honorable mention laurels during the current season. In 2010, he secured All-WIAC first team recognition and All-NCHA honorable mention accolades. He was named the Blugold Freshman of the Year in 2008.
Kearns is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and UW-Eau Claire Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The WIAC Max Sparger Men’s Ice Hockey Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Max Sparger, the Wisconsin State University Conference commissioner from July 1971-July 1993. To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.25. In addition, he must be in his last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
