American Marketing Association Hosts First Regional Conference
By Tara Cegla, Senior Public Relations Major, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) held their First Annual UWEC-AMA Regional Conference entitled “Coaching, Connections, and Communication.” In addition to being open to all UW-Eau Claire students, over 60 AMA students from chapters located at UW-Whitewater, UW-Stout, and Winona State University traveled to attend the event.
The conference began at 10:00 am and included a variety of presentations with speakers from Altria, Primerica, and The Stone Group. The focus of the conference was to provide students with actionable strategies to improve their networking and communications skills as a way to connect with future employers and business partners. Due to the success of this first conference, the UWEC-AMA is looking forward to continuing this regional conference in the future.
In addition to the conference, UWEC-AMA members also volunteered to assist at Internship Mania 2011 which was being conducted the same day as the conference at Zorn Arena. The AMA welcomed employers before the event took place, helped with logistics, and provided support as needed to during Internship Mania.
Internship mania provided students the opportunity to talk with company representatives about internships and full-time opportunities with their companies. AMA members eagerly await Internship Mania each year so they can gain more professional experience and have an opportunity to network with an assortment of companies. Internship Mania and the associated Regional Conference allowed UWEC-AMA members to get involved with the campus community and to provide valuable resources for students.
AMA is a student-run professional business organization that offers students the opportunity to learn essential skills and leadership to prepare for a future in business.
