Get Ready to Compete in The Warm-Up
Every November, the UW-Eau Claire College of Business hosts the Great Northwoods Sales Warm-Up, a college competition where UW-Eau Claire students test their professional sales skills against students at other campuses. This year’s event will be held November 10-12, 2011.
The best overall sales person at the November Great Northwoods Sales Warm-Up will receive a trophy and a check for $1,500. Cash awards are also given for first runner-up ($1,000), second runner-up ($750), and champion from each school ($150).
The UW-Eau Claire students with the highest scores from The Warm-Up will progress to the National Sales Competition, held March 2-5, 2012 at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
Because space is limited at the Warm-Up, UW-Eau Claire marketing faculty hold a preliminary competition to determine who will represent our college in November. The preliminary competition will be held Monday, October 24th and Tuesday, October 25th. Any student who is presently enrolled in or has completed Marketing 227, Professional Selling, is eligible to participate.
The event requires students to role play a call on a professional buyer. During, the 20-minute presentation, students must convince the buyer to add Hormel’s Natural Choice lunch meats to their chain of grocery stores. Students are given support materials from Hormel Foods that includes competitor profiles, information about the product, promotional materials, etc.
The role plays are recorded in the College of Business Center for Sales and Sales Management, then sent via streaming video to be judged by a group of at least 10 alumni who were winners in past years. All participants at the October event will receive a certificate and the winners a trophy.
