BCOM Professor Larry Honl to Retire after 32 years
Dr. Larry Honl, assistant professor in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Department of Business Communication, will retire at the end of the May 2010 semester. His last official day is June 11, 2010.
Since joining the department in the fall of 1977, Honl has always placed students at the top of his priority list both in and outside the classroom. This dedication has generated such comments as, "Dr. Honl is among the best instructors I have experienced at UW-Eau Claire: he challenges students to learn and improve their communication skills."
Honl was instrumental in creating the advising system which is now being used in the College of Business. As the college's pre-business student adviser, Honl has advised over 300 students each semester for the past three years. He has also held an appointment in the university's Office for Advising and New Student Initiatives as well as served for many years as an adviser in the university's New Student Summer Orientation Program.
During Honl's tenure at UW-Eau Claire, the Department of Business Communication has changed its name four times. Each name change resulted in a significant change in mission for the department. "Dr. Honl is a leader and a team player who helped the department transition to its various roles," said Dr. Jack Hoggatt, chair of the business communication department. "He has always been flexible in order to meet the needs of our students," Hoggatt said.
A retirement reception for Honl will be held Friday, May 14 from noon to 2 pm in the Schneider Hall Cargill Collaboration Center, Room 203.
