CJ Peer Advising Program

The Department of Communication and Journalism is actively involved in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's (UWEC) Peer Academic Advising Initiative, in which peer academic advisors work with CJ majors and minors to fulfill five primary functions: (1) work with students to develop a solid understanding of their degree audit; (2) help students understand the value of a liberal education; (3) assist students in utilizing the My Planner CampS function to document a sound graduation degree plan; (4) direct students to available resources, organizations, and activities; and (5) develop resources to help students understand CJ majors and minors what they can do with such degree programs.

To learn more about meeting with peer advisors and what they have to offer you in regard to helping you make the most of your experience here at UW-Eau Claire and prepare you for a future career in Communication and Journalism, please contact peer advisors Alexis Benjamin and Amanda Krueger via e-mail at, via telephone at (715)-836-3153, or in person in Hibbard Humanities Hall 172.

Peer Academic Advisor: Alexis Benjamin:

Photo-Alexis BenjaminMy nameis Alexis Benjamin and I am a junior here at UWEC. I am majoring in communication with an emphasis in organizational communication and minoring in pre-professional health. I am hoping to enter medical school after graduation.I absolutely love helping fellow students understand their graduation requirements and believe academic advising is an essential part of a student's time here at Eau Claire. The CJ Department's Peer Academic Advising Program is a good stepping stone and resource for every type of student. Academic advising is not only an important part of reaching your goals to graduate, but is also essential to doing so in a timely manner. Outside of school and academic advising I am also a resident assistant in Towers South, volunteer through a program called VIDA, and enjoy being outdoors!

Peer Academic Advisor: Amanda Krueger:

Amanda KruegerMy name is Amanda Krueger and I am in my second year at UWEC. I'm currently pursuing degrees in both journalism and psychology with aminor in French. I look forward to the opportunity to help other students plan their education and prepare for a career. My experience with advising has been a positive one, and I want new students to feel comfortable with the advising process and planning for their future. Outside of academic advising I enjoy hiking and canoeing and I love to read and write. This year I hope to be more involved on campus while encouraging others to do so as well.
