In order to apply for this scholarship, the applicant must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:
- Be a continuing Mass Communication-Advertising or Journalism (Print or Broadcast) major
- Have applied for a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the FAFSA must indicate financial need
- Criteria for this award include GPA, extracurricular activities, and future promise in the field of journalism or advertising
- Preference will be given to a non-traditional student
This scholarship is personally endowed by Dr. James E. Fields, an award-winning writer with decades of experience as a reporter, photographer and editor. He served as chair of the Department of Journalism from 1984 to 1992 and continues his writing career at home in Knoxville, Tenn.
