Amanda R., an Elementary Education major, fulfilled one major requirement and some GE requirements during her semester at the University of Winchester. She enjoyed her classes, saying, ”My professors were always willing to help and were very welcoming of the American students.”
Amanda also enjoyed the slower pace of life in England. “Daily life is laid-back,” she explained. “The Brits aren’t in a hurry like Americans are." With the free time came the opportunity to meet people. “I met so many wonderful British students who took me home to their families. I was able to learn about the local places-not just the touristy places.”
The long term impacts on Amanda? “I have come back a completely new person. I am more independent, more outgoing, more willing to try new things. I would re-live this experience in a heartbeat!” Amanda said that the most difficult part of her experience was coming home. “I knew I would never be in the same place with the same people again.” Amanda has stayed in contact with friends that she made abroad and has gone back to England to visit some of them.
