International Speakers Bureau

The International Speakers Bureau is comprised of UW-Eau Claire international students dedicated to broadening cultural understanding in the Chippewa Valley by speaking to school, university, and community groups about their home culture. Why should I invite an International Speaker to address my class or group? International Speakers Bureau speakers go beyond what traditionally can be learned about a particular part of the world by providing first-hand knowledge of a country's culture, history, politics, and more. Speakers tailor their presentations to each particular audience. Examples from past engagements (ranging from elementary classes to senior citizen groups) have included:

  • A folk song in French
  • A simple Chinese folk dance
  • Dress and its significance in Greece
  • Structure of government in Sweden
  • U.S. relations with Japan
  • System of education in Norway
  • Numbers 1-10 in Russian
  • Pictures of family and home from India
  • Dating and marriage customs in Malaysia
  • Aspects of religion in Thailand
  • Current political issues in Taiwan
  • Modern art in Mexico
