The field of computer science is concerned with a wide range of topics involving the development and applications of computing. The study integrates concepts from mathematics, science and engineering into a coherent study of computational processes.
BA/BS
Chemistry encompasses a study of the composition, structure and properties of matter. It includes the creation of new materials with useful and interesting properties such as drugs, plastics and industrial catalysts. Chemical methods are developed to detect and quantify substances that may have escaped into the environment or are beneficial trace components of foods. Chemical theories and models may help explain and then counteract phenomena like acid rain, ozone depletion and the development of certain diseases. Careers in chemistry can take many forms. UW-Eau Claire has developed four major emphases under the guidance of the American Chemical Society to meet the needs of students and the society they will serve.
BBA
Information systems is the study of how information technology can help in planning, developing and managing organizations. IS majors learn about computing in organizations: application programming, systems analysis & design, database management, telecommunications networks, electronic business, etc. However, they also learn management skills for working effectively with people in all areas: marketing, accounting, finance, production, personnel, etc. IS majors develop communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills as well as information technology skills, all of which are highly valued in organizations of all kinds. The program also prepares students to apply for the Certified Computing Professional certification if they choose to do so.

Mathematics is the language that expresses scientific and quantitative relationships and, at the same time, is a discipline with a structure and beauty of its own. It provides methods for recording and explaining ideas in science, engineering, business and other fields, as well as for verifying theories about the world. It also enables communication of complicated relationships in a concise manner. With mathematics, problems from the ordinary to the sophisticated and technical can be solved.
BS/BA
Physics, the science of matter and energy, is the study of the deepest mysteries of our universe, ranging from subatomic particles to cosmology. Exploring ideas of space, time, matter, energy and radiation, it serves as the basis for the physical sciences, engineering and new technologies. At UW-Eau Claire, we also combine the study of physics with astronomy to apply the ideas of physics to the study of planets, stars, galaxies and all celestial phenomena within reach of our telescopes. These two areas share a vast array of common ideas and knowledge, and discoveries in physics often aid progress in astronomy and vice versa.

Kinesiology is the study of the art and science of human movement. The goal of the department is to promote and advance society's appreciation for human movement and its numerous contributions to an improved quality of life. This goal is addressed through programs covering the biological, psychological, social and environmental factors that influence an individual's capacity to lead a health lifestyle. Whether your interests are in personal fitness, athletic training, coaching, teaching, health and wellness, or one of our pre-professional programs like cardiac rehabilitation or physical therapy there is something for everyone interested in the study of human movement.
