Communities of Practice

Educator-Proposed Communities of Practice (COP)

What's a COP?
A group of five or more educators who meet and discuss pertinent literature on a teaching and learning topic. Participants plan, implement and assess an individual project related to the chosen topic. The group commits to meet five to 10 times per semester to assist one another with individual projects and to complete its work in 12 months.

Getting started.
  • Determine a teaching & learning topic you'd like to facilitate
  • Discuss your proposal with CETL
  • Upon approval, review facilitator and group expectations with CETL

COP Facilitator Expectations:

1. Communicate COP expectations to participants
2. Select literature & coordinate meetings with an agenda & attendance for each meeting
3. Periodically discuss COP progress with CETL
4. Gather, review and submit members' final reports
5. Submit the COP Facilitator's final report
6. Receive a $500 stipend upon completion within 12 months

COP Participant Expectations:
1. Submit your project idea to the facilitator
2. Participate in meetings having completed readings and assignments
3. Assist each other with individual projects
4. Submit a final report to the facilitator including an assessment of your project
5. Receive a stipend upon project completion within 12 months
