Title: Creativity in College Teaching Reading Group
Facilitator: Lia Johnson, Art
Description: This group will read and discuss this book, which is a series of 15 articles by different authors that address a variety of aspects of creativity in higher education. The book is a scholarly endeavor out of Great Britain that explores the many challenges and opportunities surrounding creativity and innovation in higher education. To my knowledge there is no book more comprehensive about creativity in higher education. Norman Jackson is a central voice in the creativity initiatives taking place in Great Britain both in K-12 and in universities. Given that creativity is a component of the UW-Eau Claire strategic plan, it would seem fun, prudent and valuable for interested faculty to read and discuss the research and thought that has already been accumulated in this volume. The articles offer a range of issues surrounding various disciplines, disciplinary views of creativity, public policy, definitions, student experiences, pedagogy, and assessment considerations. Beyond reading it, it is up to the group to decide what, if anything, we want to do with the outcome of our discussions. Our discussions would be most valuable if a variety of representative disciplines contribute. Faculty from nursing, education, business, the sciences, arts and humanities are encouraged to take part.
