Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from former students about CEP

Q: Why does UW-Eau Claire offers this program?

A: UW-Eau Claire is a very rigorous university. Students with ACT scores below the freshman average often have trouble with academic courses at UW-Eau Claire. CEP provides highly motivated students the opportunity to thrive in a competitive environment.

Q: I don't need ESL courses; why should I take these classes?

A: The CE Program in NOT an ESL program. Most of the courses in the Commanding English Program are also taken by other 1st year students.

Only two language courses, which let us provide you with personal attention, have a curriculum different from what native speakers would take.

Q: If I take the courses in the CE Program, won't it take me longer to graduate?

A: NO, for two reasons:

  1. Most of the courses in the CE Program can be used to fulfill UW-Eau Claire graduation requirements;
  2. By taking this program, you are more likely to successfully complete the academic classes you do take. Students who are not enrolled in CEP often do poorly or fail many of their academic classes and must repeat them...or drop out of school altogether.
