Quality over Quantity

Because our cohort is led by our full-time graduate faculty, we offer only one cohort every two years. As an added benefit, we do not anticipate the cancellation that some other schools have experienced; we are confident that our cohort will reach a sufficient enrollment. And, once a cohort begins, we guarantee that it will continue.

Convenient. Casual. Comfortable

The atmosphere for your weekend meetings is informal and relaxed. You'll meet one weekend each month for two full days (8 a.m. to 4:30 or 5 p.m., depending on the length of the lunch break) on the UW-Eau Claire campus. There is parking near the building. Bring your own lunch . . . or organize "pot luck" with your cohort members.

Meet Face-to-Face Only One Weekend Per Month . . .

Your time in face-to-face meetings will include discussion, activities, lecture, and small group work. The instructors try to break up the day by providing a variety of experiences. As class progresses, you will be doing some demonstrations and presentations related to the subject at hand.  Collaborative - share your professional expertise with a cohort of your peers.

 . . . The Rest is Online.

Between meetings, you will have assignments and discussions through the D2L online system. The number and nature of assignments will vary according to the class. The students in the most recent cohort reported spending an average of 12 - 13 hours per week on coursework outside the weekend meetings.

Practical

You'll be able to discuss theory on Sunday and apply it immediately on Monday. Course topics are relevant and designed to improve student outcomes - both your own and your students.

Professional

As a graduate student, you will be respected as a professional educator and encouraged to get to know and learn from one another. The professors learn from you, too.

Your Final Project

Most students choose to create a portfolio for their culminating project. It is linked to the 5 Goals of National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, and includes projects from your classes that demonstrate how you have accomplished the 5 goals.  If you prefer, you may choose instead to take an exam, or write a scholarly paper, research paper, or a thesis. There will also be an oral exam with a committee made up of your advisor, one other Education Studies (ES) faculty member, and a faculty member from outside the ES department.

Rewarding

You'll graduate with a diploma, improved creativity, skills and scholarship.  All of the tools you'll need to improve your students' learning outcomes.
