Learn the fundamental elements of a successful nonprofit organization as well as some historical perspective on the nonprofit sector including why it exists and how it is different from the public for profit sector. Human resource management including how to adequately staff your nonprofit organization, negotiation and conflict resolution, and diversity among staff will all be addressed. Volunteer recruitment and management, and budgeting in these economic times and beyond will also be addressed as part of this workshop.

JOANN STORMER is Executive Director of Leadership Wisconsin. Leadership Wisconsin is designed to strengthen communities by preparing leaders as catalysts to effectively deal with today’s changing world. JoAnn was the co-founder and then Interim Director of the Wisconsin Nonprofits Association (WNA). JoAnn has over twenty years experience in various roles with nonprofit organizations developing curriculum, conducting leadership training, fund raising, marketing and administration.

The session is a practical and usable introduction to the key concepts and techniques of strategic planning and how to apply them to your nonprofit. You will leave with a clear understanding of what nonprofits can gain from strategic planning. The session will feature extensive handouts including planning forms, worksheets, and examples of strategic planning documents. You will walk through some of the processes of strategic planning and learn how to design an effective planning process that fits your organization’s needs, results in a flexible and achievable road map for your nonprofit, and leads to increased mission impact.

He is president of the Center for Public Skills Training where he specializes in strategic planning, governing board development, volunteer management, and community partnership and alliance building.

HAUMERSEN, CPA, is Managing Partner at Wegner LLP CPAs & Consultants with over 25 years experience providing accounting, auditing and not-for-profit advisory services to over 500 nonprofit clients throughout Wisconsin. He is skilled in providing various forms of financial analysis and budgeting, as well as cultivating relationships between management, boards and stakeholders. He was recently elected to the founding boards of Wisconsin Nonprofits Association, the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism as

Examine the roles and responsibilities of staff and board members in nonprofits, and the relationship between the nonprofit executive and Board. Discussion topics will include recruiting, training, managing and engaging board members, understanding and elevating the mission/vision, fiscal responsibility and stewardship, board structure and the role of committees, risk management, and conflict management.

TAMI SATRE oversees statewide district operations for Junior Achievement (JA) of Wisconsin, Inc. She currently coaches staff in 9 districts and consults with ten volunteer boards, made up of more than 175 board members statewide, on board recruitment and diversity, engagement, and development. In addition to working with existing boards, Tami has developed boards in new JA territories including Madison, LaCrosse, and the Chippewa Valley where she got her nonprofit start 17 years ago.

Heidi holds a Master of Arts degree in Nonprofit Management from Hamline University in St. Paul Minnesota. Heidi has been recognized with the Senn Award (United Way of Greater Eau Claire, 2008), David G. Anderson Community Builder Award (UWEC, 2007), Public Administration and Management Scholar Award (Hamline University, 2004) and the Administrative Volunteer Award (LVCV, 1996). Heidi resides in Eau Claire, WI.

Walk through key elements of internal and external communications, including determining your audience and how to reach them, creating a communications plan, working with social networks, increasing effectiveness with communications, crisis communication planning, how education relates to marketing and communications, integration of marketing and communications with the work of the organization, and logo creation/usage/credit.

SARA ANTONSON has been the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley since July of 2006. She is an experienced marketing, human resources, and information technology professional who has served on the boards of directors for a number of local nonprofit organizations including the United Way, Junior Achievement, Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild and Eau Claire Regional Arts Center. Prior to joining the Boys & Girls Club, Sara worked as the Marketing Director for the Markquart Family of Dealerships in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Sara has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Behavior and Communication from Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Each workshop = 6 continuing education contact hours.
