![]() Welcome Message from the Dean Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences website. Our college offers progressive and dynamic coursework and degree programs grounded in the values of the liberal arts and sciences that develop intellectual skills, including analysis, synthesis, critical thinking, and application; strengthen the ability to communicate effectively; enhance aesthetic appreciation and humanistic understanding; and develop breadth and depth of perspective about the human experience and natural world. These are our core values that develop essential skills and knowledge for success in a career or profession and also prepare an engaged and responsible citizenry for life-long learning. To this end, the College of Arts and Sciences offers courses and degree programs in eighteen academic departments that include the natural and social sciences, the humanities, communication, and the fine arts, and eight interdisciplinary programs that concentrate on human groups and behavior, technology, and sustainability. We also serve the entire university and broader community by offering instruction for general education and foundational courses for the professional colleges; by providing international learning experiences, continuing education, and distance learning; and by sponsoring public lectures, symposia, and artistic performances and exhibitions. The College of Arts and Sciences faculty are vibrant scholars who are committed to the advancement of knowledge in their disciplines through progressive research and creativity, through service to their profession and the community, and through an extraordinary dedication to teaching and learning. We challenge our students in classrooms, in laboratories, in studios and on stage, in the field, and in a wide range of faculty-mentored research and creative projects. The college faculty especially value high impact instructional practices that offer interdisciplinary perspectives, enhance global awareness, and maximize experiential learning. We strive for inclusiveness in everything we do, recognizing that diversity is a hallmark of liberal learning. I hope you enjoy exploring our website. Be sure to find your way to the pages that describe our departments, faculty and staff, and degree programs and read about the many innovative learning experiences the College of Arts and Sciences offers.
