Bowling Club Traveling Team

Our traveling team consists of 5-6 men and 5-6 women that compete against other college bowling teams around Wisconsin and the nation.  The members of our men's traveling team have to take part in a multi-game qualifier in order to become a member of the team unless we have under seven men interested.  This year's qualifier will be held early September.  Please check out our calendar to find the exact dates for qualifying and tournaments.  Once the qualifier is complete the top seven men will be a part of our traveling team.  Of these seven men five will be labeled as starters for each tournament.  The five starters for each tournament are decided by keeping a rolling average on this website in an excel file.  This years rolling average for men can be found here.  This rolling average is accumulated by requiring every traveling member to bowl three games each week outside of normal practice.  The top five averaging members going into each tournament will be allowed to be a starter at the tournament.  The other two men will be substituted in on an as needed basis.  The substitutions will be decided by both the team captain and the struggling team member.

Conference Tournaments

Bowling Club is a member of the Wisconsin Collegiate Bowling Conference.  This conference consists of 10 men's teams and 8 women's teams from universities in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  These tournaments are held on Saturday and Sundays.  Usually  we leave Eau Claire on Friday evening and either stay at a members parents' home or at a hotel for both Friday and Saturday nights.  The room costs are all paid for through bowling club funds.  The only cost to individual members is for food and gas.  This generally allows one person to compete the whole weekend for less than $50.  There have been instances of people  who have made it through the whole weekend for less than $20.  Every year the conference meets are held at different locations.  Generally they are at four of the following campuses UW-Milwaukee, UW-Whitewater, UW-Madison, Winona State, and UW-Eau Claire.  These four conference meets are nine game competitions.  The games are split into six games Saturday and three Sunday.  Conference rules and standings can be found on UW-Whitewater's bowling club page at http://uc.uww.edu/StGroups/BowlClub/Wcbc/WCBC_index.html.

Other Tournaments

Our traveling team also competes in a couple of other tournaments throughout the school year.  These tournaments are usually invitationals.  These invitationals are weekend long competitions that allow universities from anywhere in the country to compete.  These competitions are held to allow teams to gain points in the national collegiate bowling program as well as gain money for their sport clubs.  Bowling Club tries to compete in at least two of these invitationals each year but if members are interested we could compete in many more.

Along with these invitationals we also compete in a regional and national competition that is sponsored by university recreation centers across the nation.  The regional tournament is held at a participating Wisconsin school and the national tournament is held in Omaha, NE.  The national tournament is the biggest tournament of the year for the traveling team because we compete against some of the best schools from all over the country.
