The University Bookstore manages the undergraduate textbook rental program established when the Eau Claire campus was founded in 1916. More than 93,000 books are in the inventory of the Instructional Resource Rental Department, located on the upper level of the University Bookstore (Davies Center 230).
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire believes it is important to maintain the textbook rental program. The savings to students compared to a purchase system are significant, as the semester fee is less than the cost per copy of most textbooks.
In addition to using rental texts, instructors may have additional titles available in the University Bookstore that are required or recommended for purchase.
Custom course packs — compiled materials that commonly include excerpted copyrighted materials from textbooks, journals and newspapers — are also created at the request of instructors and sold in the University Bookstore.
