Webmail (UWEC Specific)
Webmail may seem to an already familiar application, but a user may be unaware of various features that enable efficient communication and information sharing. From distribution lists to quota management and archiving to emptying folders, many features in Webmail are overlooked. Distribution lists enable a user to send a mass email with a year-term indicator while a “Getlist” can obtain all the names from any UWEC distribution list. Calendar features are useful for setting up meeting times with students and is a way to keep a hectic day organized.
As emails flood the inbox and outbox, strategies can be implemented to manage a user’s quota. Creating folders designated for specific course sections and creating rules to automatically sort incoming email messages into these specified folders is an easy way to sort masses of email as they arrive. Search folders can be used to sort emails by file size or document type which allows a user to sift through and delete messages. Draft, deleted items, sent items, and junk email folders can also steal quota space so be sure to empty these folders of all partial and ancient messages. Archiving email messages and saving attachments into a storage space (i.e. H drive, hard drive, etc) while deleting those bulky messages from the inbox is another strategy to free up space but retain the content of each message for a later date.
What can I do with it?
- Send course content to all students enrolled in a course
- Set up filters to automatically empty the 'junk' and 'deleted items' folders of messages that are stealing quota space
- Retrieve a list of students enrolled in the course
- Send meeting requests to students and instructors
- Filter inbox messages to sort the large from the small, the old from the new, and so on
