NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP UP NEXT FOR WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Twelve members of the UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team are headed to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship scheduled for May 22-24 in Oshkosh.

Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette, Wis.) will compete in four events this weekend at the championship. Thursday she will compete in the 4x100-meter relay trial (3:45 p.m.), the 400-meter hurdles trial (5 p.m.) and the 4x400-meter relay trial (7:10 p.m.). Friday she will run in the 100-meter hurdles trial (4:40 p.m.). All finals are scheduled for Saturday. Faller was the conference champion in the 100-meter hurdles, but had her fastest time at the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meet to advance to nationals. Her time of 14.21 is the fastest in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the third fast in NCAA Division III this season. In the 400-meter hurdles, she took second at the WIAC Championship, but also had a faster time at the Augustana Last Chance Meet on May 16 with a time of 62.68. It was the fastest time in the WIAC and 10th fastest in Division III this season.

Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn.) is scheduled to participate in two different events this weekend. She will be part of the 4x400-meter relay team and will also compete in the 400-meter dash. Trials for the 400-meter dash will start at 5:20 p.m. on Friday, with finals beginning at 2:10 p.m. Saturday. Kooistra automatically qualified for nationals on March 22 at the Emory Invitational. Her time of 55:89 in the event is the third fastest in Division III and fastest in the WIAC this season.

Other members of the track team who will compete in the 4x100-meter relay are Amy Bachinski (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Briana Berg (So.-Arcadia, Wis.) and Kjersten Holt (Sr.-Long Prairie, Minn./Grey Eagle). The 400-meter relay team made it to nationals after posting a time of 47.84 at the Oshkosh Last Chance on May 10. Their time was the third fastest in the WIAC and the 12th fastest in Division III this season. Laura Broner (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Corrina Saager (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./East) will participate in the 4x400-meter relay. The team was selected for nationals with a time of 3:51.51 on April 26 at the Drake Relays. Their time was the second fastest in the WIAC and 11th fastest in Division III this season.

Bridget Wolfe (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) and Alicia Schuelke (Jr.-Gilman, Wis.) are scheduled to compete in the high jump. Wolfe was selected to compete in nationals after leaping to a height of 5-6 ½ on May 15 at the UW-River Falls Last Chance meet. Her leap was the highest in the WIAC this season and the fourth highest in Division III. Schuelke was selected after jumping 5-5 ¼ at the UW-Oshkosh Invite on April 26. The trials and finals are set to begin at 4 p.m. Friday. Wolfe will also compete in the heptathlon at nationals.

Hannah Humbach (So.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at nationals, with the race taking place at 7 p.m. on Friday. Humbach advanced to nationals after finishing with a time of 10:55 at the North Central Last Chance Meet on May 16. Her time was the fastest in the WIAC this season and the 18th fastest in Division III.

Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) is set to participate in the discus throw. The trials and the finals will both take place at 6 p.m. Thursday. Morse had the 10th longest throw in Division III this season and the third longest in the conference with a distance of 152-3.

Hayley Suckow (So.-Elk Mound, Wis.) was selected to compete in the pole vault at nationals. Suckow was selected to the championship after vaulting to a height of 12-0 ½ at the Augustana Last Chance Meet on May 16. It was the third highest vault in the WIAC this season and the 11th in NCAA Division III. The pole vault will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
