BLUGOLD ATHLETE TO BE FEATURED ON CBS HIGHLIGHT SHOW

CBS television will feature a UW-Eau Claire track and field athlete on its NCAA Spring Highlights show which will air at 3 pm (ET) Saturday, July 1.

Brooke Schmidt will be featured during the last half hour of the show with soundbytes from Brooke and her husband Bob as well as footage of their daughter Isabelle and of Brooke throwing the discus at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships last month at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

CBS producer Steve McKee notified the university early Thursday about the inclusion of Schmidt in the show. Schmidt concluded an outstanding Blugold career this spring after taking a year off for the birth of the couple's first child. Schmidt was an AVCA first team All-American in volleyball in 2003, a two-time conference rebound champion in basketball and a national qualifier in track. She has also been a two-time winner of the university's prestigious Blugold Super Six Award. She participated in track this spring while doing her practice teaching in Rice Lake this spring for her education degree. The couple lives in Rice Lake where Bob, a former All-Conference and All-American offensive lineman on the Blugold football team, teaches in the Rice Lake school district.
