WOMEN'S TRACK ANNOUNCES YEARLY AWARD WINNERS
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team held its annual end of the season banquet Sunday where the yearly award winners were announced.
Breanna McMullen (Jr.-Fall Creek) was named the 2003 Track Most Valuable Player. McMullen set the Eau Claire school record in the 400 meter hurdles during the season with a mark of 1:01.76. The junior Blugold also was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team which broke the school record in the event with a time of 3:54.98. McMullen placed eighth in national competition in the 400 meter hurdles in indoor competition.
Jen Stafslein (So.-Onalaska/West Salem) was awarded 2003 Field Most Valuable Player honors as she set a new school record in the triple jump during the season. Stafslein set the record at the UW-La Crosse open with a jump of 37-1.
Kristi Hansen (So.-Rosemount, MN) was named the Most Improved athlete at the banquet while Sarah Kasabian (So.-East Peoria, IL/E.P.C.H.S.) earned the Most Dedicated award.
The Golden Shoe, an award for excellence in both athletics and academics, was awarded to Rheata Bauer (Sr.- Sauk Rapids, MN/Sauk Rapids-Rice) while Jackie Bloemendaal (Fr.-Wright, MN/Cromwell-Wright) earned top rookie honors.
Captains for the 2004 women's track and field team were also announced at the banquet where Hansen, Kasabian, Heather Lipinski (Jr.-Thorp) and Kalie Krueger (So.-Fall Creek) were awarded 2004 captain honors.
The Blugolds took fourth at this seasons Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor championships and also placed fourth at the Indoor Championships.
