WOMEN'S TRACK TAKES HOME FOURTH AT WIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire women's track team finished in fourth place for the second consecutive year at this year's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships held here today at Colman Field.

The Blugolds had three individuals earn first place honors this year. Breanna McMullen (Jr.-Fall Creek) successfully defended her 400-meter championship from last year with a time of 1:02.52.

McMullen was unsuccessful in defending her 100-meter hurdles title when teammate Jennifer Stafslien (So.-Onalaska/West Salem) edged her out with a time of 14.73 seconds. McMullen finished with a time of 14.82 seconds.

Jackie Bloemendaal (Fr.-Wright, MN/Cromwell-Wright) took home the other first place finish in the high jump competition. She cleared 1.62 meters en route to taking home the title. Bloemendaal also had a strong showing in the heptathlon with her fourth place finish. She finished the event with 3,641 points.

Katie Miller (Jr.-Green Bay/Preble) provided points for Eau Claire in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. She finished third in the 100-meter with a time of 12.59 seconds and placed fifth in the 200-meter with a time of 26.52 seconds.

The Blugolds also received strong efforts from Sarah Kasabian (Jr.-East Peoria, IL/E.P.C.H.S.) and Brooke Wozniak (Jr.-Stanley/Stanley-Boyd). Kasabian finished in third place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:40.44 while Wozniak placed fourth in the discus throw with her toss of 41.69 meters.

La Crosse finished in first for the sixth consecutive year followed by Stevens Point and Oshkosh.

Eau Claire will travel to La Crosse Friday to compete in the Leo Schnur Meet. The scheduled start time is to be announced.
