WOMEN'S TENNIS CLAIMS TENTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE TITLE

MADISON - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team completed their drive towards a tenth consecutive and 12th overall conference championship by winning four out of the six singles flights here today at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Number one singles player Alison Hover (Sr.-St. Cloud, MN/Tech) made up for an early season loss to Oshkosh's Debra Aschenbrenner by taking out the top seed in the championship match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

In the championship match at two singles, Laurie Alonso (Fr.-Austin, MN) defeated Oshkosh's Mercedes Blanch 6-4, 7-5 to complete an undefeated season within conference play.

Jenny Stafford (Jr.-Cross Plains/Middleton) and Tara Anderson (So.-Litchfield, MN) also completed undefeated seasons within conference play. Stafford defeated Louie Dubinski of La Crosse 6-0, 6-1 and Anderson beat Whitewater's Maggie Seitz 6-2, 6-4.

At five and six singles, Becky Hollinger (So.-Jefferson) and Katie Steffes (Fr.-St. Joseph, MN/Apollo) advanced to the championship matches, but were defeated by Becky Bryant and Stephanie Kill of La Crosse.

In yesterday's action, the tandems of Hover and Alonso at one doubles and Stafford and Megan Tauer (Stillwater, MN) at two doubles took home championships.

#2 - Stafford/Tauer (EC) defeated Alioto/Stamm (WW) 9-8 (7-4).
#3 - Chamberlain/Steimle (WW) defeated Dreschler/Pouba (OK) 8-4.
