WOMEN JUMP TO THIRD IN DAY TWO OF WIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team improved one position in day two of three at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, going from fourth to third here today in Stevens Point.

Eau Claire finished with 275 points after day two, behind only Stevens Point and La Crosse who both posted scores in the mid 500's.

Annie Gorman (Fr-Menomonie) led the way for the Blugolds with a third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle event. Her time of 1:59.33 was behind only two members of La Crosse who scored high enough to earn "B" cuts for national competition.

Adria Bye (Jr-Appleton/West) grabbed a third place finish as well for the Blugolds in the 1-meter diving event. Bye notched third place with a score of 353.85.

Liz VonFeldt (Jr-Lancaster) also put forth an impressive effort as she finished fourth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.90. Her time was also behind only provisional qualifying scores for national competition.

Both VonFeldt and Gorman were also members of the Blugolds 800 yard freestyle relay team which took third in the event with a time of 8:13.88.

This year's WIAC Championships will conclude tomorrow. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m. while finals are set to start at 5:30 p.m.
