WRESTLING TAKES DOWN ST. OLAF

NORTHFIELD, MN – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team controlled the lower weight classes and lost just two matches in the meet as the Blugolds defeated St. Olaf 34-12 here today at Skoglund Center.

The victory improves the Blugold record to 6-2 in dual meets this season with their only losses coming to fourth-ranked Luther (IA) College and 12th-ranked Coe (IA) College. Earlier this week the Blugolds defeated 24th-ranked UW-Whitewater.

Andy Miller (So.-Appleton/North) started a run of four straight Blugold victories as he defeated Rickey Traut 10-4 at 133 pounds. Andy Johnston (Fr.-St. Cloud, MN/Tech) defeated Dan Rysavy 10-9 at 141 to continue the Blugold win streak.

Dave Vanevenhoven (Sr.-Appleton/Kaukauna) earned the first Blugold pin of the day as he defeated Nick Espinosa at 149 pounds in 6:28. Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA) followed with the second pin of the day defeating Lucas Scott in 1:30 at 157 pounds.

After receiving a forfeit victory at 174 pounds, Nick Hoeft (Jr.-Merrill) defeated George Jimenez 9-1 at 184 pounds. Justin McAuly (Sr.-Clintonville) followed a Blugold loss at 197 with a pin of Nate Steffl in 2:20 at Heavyweight. The pin pushed McAuly’s team leading pin total to four on the season.

The Blugolds return to the mat on Tuesday, December 12 when they host Lawrence University in their first home match of the season. Action is set to begin at 7:00 P.M.
