WRESTLING HAS SIX PLACEWINNERS IN DAN GABLE OPEN

OSHKOSH – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team came up with six placewinners in the Dan Gable Open hosted by UW-Oshkosh here Saturday.

The meet was populated by athletes from Division I schools like Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, UW-Madison, Northern Iowa, University of Michigan, University of Missouri and University of Illinois. Although there was no team score because it was an open meet, the Blugolds fared well.

Senior Lance Valiquette (Auburn, WA) paced the Blugolds as he took second at 165 pounds, losing to UW-La Crosse’s Tim Palmer in the final.

Senior Justin McAuly (Clintonville) garnered a third at heavyweight, defeating Central Michigan’s Hafeez Quereshi for his final place. In the consolation wrestlebacks, McAuly had to beat teammate John Berlin (Shell Lake) who finished fifth.

Sophomore Andy Miller (Appleton/North) grabbed a fourth at 133 pounds while Dave Vanevenhoven (Sr.-Appleton/Kaukauna) placed fifth at 149 and Josh Kasuboski (So.-Wautoma) finished sixth at 184.

The Blugolds, who are 8-2 in dual meets this season, will compete in the St. John’s duals next Saturday.
