WOMEN'S GOLF CLIMBS TO SECOND BUT FALLS BY ONE STROKE

NORMAL, IL - Yesterday the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team found itself in sixth place out of 25 teams but today's effort brought it to second place at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite.

The Blugolds, however, missed the top spot by a single stroke. DePauw University retained its lead and won with a 632 over Eau Claire's 633. SIU Edwardsville was next with 641 while Illinois Wesleyan and UW-Oshkosh tied for fourth with 649s.

Katie Tewell from Franklin College shot 148 on the par-72 course for a four-over score and medalist honors. The Ironwood Golf Course is measured at 5,965 yards.

Torie Ives (Fr.-Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) moved from a fifth-place tie to a third-place one today with a 155 tally. Meghan Sobotta (Jr.-Arcadia) and Jesse Thompson (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) were two behind Ives to tie for eighth. Kate Borman (Fr.-Kenosha/Bradford) was the fourth Eau Claire golfer and she totaled 165 to tie for 30th on the tournament.

The Division III Midwest Classic in Hudson is next on the calendar for Eau Claire. The two-day event begins next Saturday.
