BURNS NAMED WIAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MADISON – UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball forward Michelle Burns (Jr.-Eau Claire/North) has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Week, it was announced today by conference sports information director Matt Stanek. Burns was named the Most Valuable Player at the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase as she helped lead the Blugolds to the championship of the two-day tournament and a 3-0 record on the week. In a 63-55 victory against St. Norbert on Nov. 21, Burns led all scorers with 21 points and nine rebounds. In the opener of the Thanksgiving Showcase against Otterbein (Ohio), she was second on the team with 12 points and seven rebounds in a 76-67 triumph. The following night, Burns scored 20 points to go with nine rebounds and two steals in a 76-65 championship game win against Morningside (Iowa). For the week Burns averaged 17.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game making 20-of-33 field goals (60.6 percent), two-of-three three-point field goals, 11-of-16 free throws to go along with three steals.
