WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TIPS OFF WITH BLUE AND GOLD SCRIMMAGE

EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team kicked off its 2006-07 season by competing in its annual Blue and Gold intra-squad scrimmage tonight in Zorn Arena, with the Gold squad defeating the Blue Squad 60-49.

The scrimmage was very physical and both defenses stepped up. The game was close throughout, but the Gold team pulled away late in the second half.

Leading the Gold team was Heidi Arciszewski (So.-Thorp, WI) and Michelle Burns (Jr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) who each had 18 points. Burns finished with a double-double as she also had 12 rebounds. Brooke Hakanson (So.-Wheeler, WI/Boyceville) finished with eight points.

Leading the Blue team was Heather Witt (So.-Kendall, WI/Royall) with 12 points. Witt also led the Blue squad with eight rebounds. Rachel Mueggenborg (Jr.-West Salem, WI) had nine points and Erin Voelker (Jr.-Portage, WI) added seven points.

The Blugolds will begin their season at the Hope College Tip-Off Tourney on Friday, November 17th. Eau Claire’s opponent will be Baldwin-Wallace (OH) and the game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. local time.
