WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO HOST UW-LA CROSSE ON SATURDAY
EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team will look for its third straight win Saturday when it hosts UW-La Crosse in the second game of a men and women’s doubleheader at Zorn Arena. The Blugolds have an overall record of 11-6 and are 5-3 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. Eau Claire is coming off of its 39th straight win over UW-Superior on Wednesday with a 72-43 victory. The Blugolds are undefeated at Zorn Arena with an 8-0 record and are on a 12-game home winning streak, dating back to last season. The Eagles are also 11-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play. La Crosse is coming off of a 53-52 win against UW-River Falls on Wednesday night, in which Nicole Palmer hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Eagles the win. Earlier this season, the Eagles defeated the Blugolds by a score of 68-51. The Eagles were 22-for-28 from the free throw line in the first meeting, while the Blugolds were just 7-for-9 from the line. Michelle Burns (Jr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) leads the Blugolds in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. She is coming off of a 16-point performance against Superior on Wednesday. Burns also leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game. She is second in the WIAC with 100 defensive rebounds. Burns has three double-doubles so far this season. Heidi Arciszewski (So.-Thorp, WI) is averaging 12.5 points per game. Arciszewski has two double-doubles this season and has scored in double-figures in 13 of the 17 games. Amanda Zenner (Jr.-Medford, WI) leads the Blugolds with 44 assists and she is second on the team with 97 rebounds. Heather Witt (So.-Kendall, WI/Royall) has stepped up the last two games as she had a career-high five steals against UW-Platteville on Saturday and then matched that total against Superior on Wednesday. Eau Claire has the best free throw percentage in the WIAC, shooting 78% from the free throw line. The Blugolds are tied atop the conference with the Eagles with a +3 turnover margin. Eau Claire is second in the WIAC with a 0.76 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Eagles are led in scoring by Mackenzie Hunter, who is averaging 12.2 points per game. Hunter is second in the conference with 39 steals. Katy Searing averages 11.2 points per game and leads La Crosse with 7.1 rebounds per game. The Eagles are out-rebounding opponents this season 657-595. Nicole Palmer is averaging 10.5 points per game and leads the Eagles with 25 three-point field goals. Ashley Wagner has 53 assists, which is tied for second-most in the WIAC. The Blugolds are 35-16 all-time against the Eagles. The teams have split the season series the last three seasons. This game will also be shown on Fox Sports Net North on Friday, February 2nd at 6:30 p.m. The Blugolds and Eagles are scheduled to tip-off at approximately 5 p.m. following the men’s game at Zorn Arena. - JR -
