Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, Sophomore, Thorp, WI Arciszewski helped lead the Blugolds to within one win of earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. In a 67-62 victory over sixth-seed UW-La Crosse Arciszewski scored a game-high 22 points including a perfect 7-for-7 performance from the free throw line. Hosting seventh-seeded UW-Platteville in the WIAC quarterfinal Arciszewski again led both teams in scoring with 21 points including a game-high three made three-point field goals. Arciszewski scored 13 of the first 18 points of the game against the Pioneers. Arciszewski and the Blugolds traveled to top-seed UW-Stout for the WIAC Championship game losing to the Blue Devils 73-61. Arciszewski scored nine points including a game-high three steals. For the week Arciszewski averaged 17.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game making 16-of-39 field goals, 5-of-10 three-point field goals and 15-of-15 free throws.

Brittanni Hakanson, Forward/Center, 5-11, Sophomore, Wheeler, WI/Boyceville Hakanson helped the Blugolds with her scoring and rebounding as the Blugolds split a pair of WIAC games in the final week of the regular season. In a 78-52 victory at UW-Superior Hakanson scored nine points making 4-of-4 field goals to go along with a team-best six rebounds. Hakanson totaled three assists against just one turnover in addition to one steal against the Yellowjackets. In a 61-48 loss at UW-Whitewater Hakanson led the Blugolds with 12 points and was the only Eau Claire player to score in double digits. Hakanson also grabbed five rebounds and collected one steal. For the week Hakanson averaged 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game making 10-of-15 field goals.

Rachel Mueggenborg, Junior, West Salem, WI Mueggenborg set a school record and helped the Blugolds to a 2-0 record on the week and remain in second place in the WIAC. In a 68-65 overtime victory at UW-River Falls Mueggenborg had a game-high 24 points including a school record seven three-point field goals off the bench to give the Blugolds the victory. Mueggenborg broke a school record held by three players, most recently set by Jessie Brantner who made six three-point baskets against UW-Oshkosh on February 17, 2001 and UW-River Falls on February 10, 2001. Mueggenborg made more three-point baskets by herself than both teams combined. The win was the second-straight road win for the Blugolds and their first overtime victory since defeating UW-Stout 70-69 on December 6, 2003. The Blugolds snapped a seven-game losing streak to UW-Oshkosh defeating the Titans 64-41 at Zorn Arena. Mueggenborg led the Blugolds with three assists while chipping in five points of the bench. With the victory over the Titans the Blugolds conclude regular season play with a perfect 11-0 record at Zorn Arena. For the week Mueggenborg averaged 14.5 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds per game in 43 minutes of play connecting on 9-of-18 field goals, 8-of-15 three-point field goals and 3-of-4 free throws.

Michelle Burns, Forward, 5-11, Junior, Eau Claire, WI/North Burns led all scorers with 19 points as the Blugolds defeated UW-Stevens Point 60-51 remaining undefeated at Zorn Arena this season. The win avenged a 64-44 setback to the Pointers on January 10. Burns really turned things on in the second half where she made six straight field goals and nine straight Blugold points to provide some distance from the Pointers. The Blugolds ended the game on a 12-3 run over the final six minutes of the game. For the game Burns made 8-of-13 field goals including 1-of-2 three-point field goals and 2-of-2 free throws to go with three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in the victory.

Heather Witt, Guard, 5-7, Sophomore, Kendall, WI/Royall Witt helped the Blugolds maintain sole possession of second place in the WIAC splitting a pair of conference games this week. In a 65-52 loss at conference-leading UW-Stout Witt had a game-high four steals to go with a team-best seven rebounds. Witt was also the Blugolds’ second leading scorer with 13 points going four-of-five from the field including two-for-two from three-point range. In a 59-51 victory at UW-Platteville, the Blugolds’s first conference road win of the year, Witt posted game highs with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Trailing 34-26 at the half, the Blugolds outscored the Pioneers 33-17 in the second half to secure the win. For the week Witt averaged 10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, three steals and two assists per game connecting on 7-of-10 field goals including three-of-five three-point field goal attempts.

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Sophomore, Thorp, WI Also selected as WIAC Athlete of the Week Arciszewski helped the Blugolds take sole possession of second place as they defeated UW-Superior 72-43 and UW-La Crosse 66-49. Against the Yellowjackets Arciszewski was second on the team with 15 points and three assists to go along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Blugolds forced 32 Yellowjacket turnovers including 18 steals. The Blugolds avenged a 68-51 defeat to the Eagles by outscoring La Crosse 33-16 in the second half. Arciszewski led all scorers with 19 points and was second with 6 rebounds. Arciszewski attemped and made more free throws (10-for-11) than the entire La Crosse team (9-for-10). The win was the third in a row for Eau Claire who are 9-0 at home for the season. For the week Arciszewski averaged 17 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game making 10-of-18 field goals, 3-of-8 three-point field goals and 11-of-13 free throws.

Heather Witt, Guard, 5-7, Sophomore, Kendall, WI/Royall Witt set career-high totals in rebounds, steals and assists as the Blugolds defeated UW-Platteville 58-41. In 28 minutes of play Witt scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished and five assists and tallied five steals in victory over the Pioneers. All seven of Witt’s rebounds came on the defensive end as the Blugolds improved to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the WIAC. The Blugolds are now 7-0 at home for the season including a 4-0 mark in conference play.

Michelle Burns, Forward, 5-11, Junior, Eau Claire, WI/North Burns had a career night as the Blugolds defeated nationally-ranked UW-Whitewater 62-51at Zorn Arena. Burns scored a career-best 29 points to go along with 13 rebounds to defeat the Warhawks making 12-of-21 shots including 5-of-5 free throws. It was Burns second double-double of the year. Whitewater was in the “Others Receiving Votes” section of the latest D3hoops.com national poll. In a 48-42 loss at UW-Oshkosh Burns scored seven points and had a game-best eight rebounds. For the week Burns averaged 18 points and 10.5 rebounds per game connecting on 14-of-27 field goals and 8-of-9 free throws.

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Sophomore, Thorp, WI Arciszewski was named the Most Valuable Player of the Trinity (TX) Holiday Tournament as the Blugolds defeated Bethel (MN) 60-58 and host Trinity in the championship game 69-56. Against Bethel Arciszewski hit a three-point field goal with 1:48 remaining in the second half to put the Blugolds up for good in a game that featured 16 lead changes and 10 ties. Arciszewski was the only Blugold with double-digit points scoring 12 to go along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. In the championship game against the host Tigers Arciszewski recorded her second double-double of the season with a game high 17 points and 10 rebounds including an 11-of-12 performance from the free throw line. Arciszewski averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and two steals per game in Texas connecting on 8-of-19 field goals, 1-of-2 three-point field goals and 12-of-14 free throws.

Rachel Mueggenborg, Guard, 5-6, Junior, West Salem, WI Mueggenborg sparked a Blugold comeback as she scored all 16 of her points in the game’s final four minutes as the Blugolds came just short of a late comeback to fall at Carroll 64-61. Down 51-39 with 3:21 remaining in the second half, the Blugolds ended the game on a 22-13 run spearheaded by Mueggenborg. During that stretch Mueggenborg made six-of-eight field goals including three-of-five three-point field goals and two-of-three free throws to lead the Blugold charge. Mueggenborg made three of the four three-point field goals made by both teams combined in the game. Mueggenborg led all Blugold scorers with 17 points in 16 minutes of play.

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Sophomore, Thorp, WI Arciszewski was the top Blugold scorer for the week at Eau Claire defeated previously unbeaten UW-River Falls and lost at Division II St. Cloud State (MN). In a 60-50 win over the Falcons Arciszewski led the Blugolds in scoring with 16 points and made the only three-point shot of the night for Eau Claire. In a 71-55 loss at St. Cloud State, a Division II Elite Eight participant from last year, Arciszewski scored a team-best 15 points including an eight-of-10 performance from the free throw line. For the week Arciszewski averaged 15.5 points per game converting nine-of-21 field goals, two-of-five three-point field goals and 11-of-13 free throws to go along with five rebounds, two steals and one block.

Amanda Zenner, Guard, 5-9, Junior, Medford, WI Zenner played an all-around game as the Blugolds knocked off previously undefeated and fourth-ranked UW-Stout 59-44. Zenner collected a team-best eight rebounds and two steals to go with eight points and five assists as the Blugolds ended a three-game losing streak to the Blue Devils. In a 68-51 loss at UW-La Crosse Zenner recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss. Zenner was the only Blugold with double-figure points and had game highs with six offensive rebounds and four steals. For the week Zenner averaged 9.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3 steals per game while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

Michelle Burns, Forward, 5-11, Junior, Eau Claire, WI/North Also selected as WIAC Athlete of the Week Burns was named the Most Valuable Player at the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase as Burns helped lead the Blugolds to the Showcase championship and a 3-0 record on the week. In a 63-55 come-from-behind victory against St. Norbert Burns led all scorers with 21 points and nine rebounds. In the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase Burns was second on the team with 12 points and seven rebounds as the Blugolds defeated Otterbein (OH) 76-67 in their opening round game. The following night Burns scored 20 points to go with nine rebounds and two steals as the Blugolds defeated Morningside (IA) 76-65 in the championship match. For the week Burns made 20-of-33 field goals (.606), two-of-three three-point field goals (.667) and 11-of-16 free throws (.686) to go with 25 rebounds (8.3 rebounds/game) and three steals (1 steal/game).

Michelle Burns, Forward, 5-11, Junior, Eau Claire, WI/North Burns was named to the Hope College (MI) Tip-Off All-Tournament Team as the Blugolds went 1-1 on the weekend. In a loss to ninth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace (OH) Burns was the only Blugold with double-digit points scoring 21 to also go with a team-best eight rebounds, five coming on the offensive end. In a 72-65 victory over Davenport (MI) Burns posted a double-double with 14 points and a team-best 12 rebounds. In two games Burns averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds per game making 14-of-32 field goals (.438), seven-of-seven free throws, nine offensive rebounds and three steals.
