WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS D3HOOPS.COM POST-SEASON HONORS
EAU CLAIRE - Three members of the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team have received post-season recognition from D3Hoops.Com, the "definitive internet resource for Division III basketball."
Heading up the honors list is First Team All-Central Region and Second Team All-American Kristi Channing (Sr.-Fall Creek). The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Channing led the Blugolds averaging 15.2 points per game while averaging 5.9 rebounds per game. Channing shot 52.2 percent (188-360) from the field and 78.1 percent (150-192) from the free throw line. For the year Channing posted season-highs of 31 points and 13 rebounds while posting three double-doubles in points and rebounds. Channing ends her career fifth on the school's all-time single-season scoring list (535), tied for eigthth in total career points (1,195) and 18th in career rebounds (468).
Earning Second Team All-Central Region honors was guard Janel Soppeland (Sr.-Cadott). Returning after suffering a season-ending ACL injury in 2002, Soppeland earned First Team All-WIAC honors finishing third on the team in scoring averaging 11.6 points per game while averaging 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Soppeland led the Blugolds in minutes played (30.8/game), free throw percentage (.826) and made three-pointers (58).
Receiving Third Team All-Central Region honors was forward/center Becca Spaeth (Jr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi). The third Blugold to receive First Team All-WIAC honors, Spaeth led the team in blocks (37) while ranking second in scoring averaging (12.5 points/game), rebounds (6.5 rebs/game) and field goal percentage (.514).
