WOMEN BLUGOLDS ROUT SUPERIOR
EAU CLAIRE - The fourth-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team used a 46-20 rebounding advantage to top Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent UW-Superior 68-42 here tonight at W.L. Zorn Arena.
The Blugolds improve their record to 18-1 on the season and 10-0 in WIAC action while the Yellowjackets fall to 1-16 overall and 0-10 in WIAC play.
Eau Claire shot nearly 47 percent from the floor while holding Superior to just 31 percent shooting. The Blugolds earned countless second chances as they out-rebounded the Yellowjackets 19-5 on the offensive glass.
The Blugolds trailed just once throughout the game at 4-2 before going on a 14-3 run. Eau Claire grabbed 21 rebounds in the first half while giving up just 10 to the Yellowjackets en route to taking a 36-22 halftime lead.
During the second half the Blugolds used a 22-5 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 33 points. Eau Claire had no problem holding the Yellowjackets off for the remainder of the game.
Brooke Wozniak (Sr-Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) totaled a double-double for the Blugolds as she scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Kristi Channing (Sr-Fall Creek) led the Blugolds in scoring with 14 points while Katie Murphy (So-La Crosse/Aquinas) hit three trifectas en rout to scoring nine points for the Blugolds.
Lindsey Anderson led the Yellowjackets totaling 23 points while Stephanie Janego grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Eau Claire will resume action Saturday evening when they will host WIAC opponent UW-Stevens Point. Tip-off is set to begin at 7:00 at W.L. Zorn Arena.
