PLANERT LEADS WOMEN BLUGOLDS OVER STOUT

EAU CLAIRE - Emilee Planert (So-Eau Claire/North) scored a game-high 28 points for the Blugolds, including four trifectas, all coming off the bench as the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team defeated UW-Stout 74-61 here tonight at W.L. Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds improve their season record to 17-1 and remain unbeaten in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 9-0 record. The Blue Devils fall to 14-4 on the season and 6-3 in WIAC action. UW-Stout was ranked 19th in the country coming into the game while the Blugolds were ranked fourth according to D3hoops.com.

The first half saw extremely close basketball as neither team lead by more than five points. After the game was tied for the seventh time late in the first half, the Blugolds put together a 6-1 run to end the half and take a five point lead into the locker room.

The Blue Devils did not go away after the intermission as they battled back to tie the score at 46. With the game tied, the Blugolds went on an 11-4 to take a 57-50 lead. The Blugolds would not look back the rest of the game and would build their lead to 13 points.

Planert helped the Blugold outscore Stout 36-28 in the second half as she scored 17 of her 28 points after halftime. Brooke Wozniak (Jr-Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) helped the Blugolds gain a slight rebounding advantage as she hauled in 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. The Blugolds used a converted on 25 Stout turnovers by scoring 10 points on the fast break while allowing the Blue Devils just two.

Toya Banks (Jr-Rock Island, IL) helped get the Blugolds started as she scored six of Eau Claire's first eight points en route to a total of nine points on the evening.

Eau Claire will resume action this Wednesday when they will host the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in a WIAC match up. Tip-off is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at W.L. Zorn Arena.
