VOLLEYBALL TEAM PULLS OUT VICTORY

The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team won a mistake-filled match in five games against UW-Oshkosh here tonight to improve to 2-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 14-6 overall.

The match was back-and-forth from the beginning. Eau Claire started off slow, falling behind early and losing the first game 30-28. The Blugolds came back in the second game, winning 30-27 despite an attack percentage of only .162.

Eau Claire turned it up in the third game, winning easily 30-15. The Blugolds had 15 kills compared to only two errors for an attack percentage of .520. They continued their strong play in the fourth game with a .400 attack percentage, but couldn't overcome the Titans .533 attack percentage.

The Blugolds finally finished off UW-Oshkosh in the fifth and final game. Eau Claire won the final game 15-11 behind an attack percentage of .400, which included eight kills with no errors.

Service errors were abundant for both teams throughout the match. The Blugolds had 16 service errors and the Titans had 15 with only 5 aces.

Left-side hitter Molly Menard (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) had a huge game for the Blugolds with 15 kills and only one error for an attacking percentage of .560.

Middle hitter Brooke Wozniak (Jr.-Stanley/Stanley Boyd) led the Blugolds in kills with 16. Setter Andrea Hemple (Sr.-Belleville) had a big game passing the ball, finishing with 60 assists. Julie Bobbe (Sr.-Minocqua/Lakeland) led Eau Claire with 17 digs.

The Blugolds will travel to River Falls Wednesday to take on the Falcons. There is a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m.
