The names change but the results remain the same under the tutelage of Lisa Herb. The 2003 season will mark Herb's 19th year at Eau Claire and 25th overall after spending her first six seasons at the University of Dubuque.
Herb-directed teams have won 20 or more matches in 20 of the past 22 years, won 30 or more nine times, 40 or more four times and even compiled a 52-3 overall record in her best season of 1987.
Herb owns a career record of 686-267, a .720 winning percentage, with a 523-178 mark at Eau Claire for a .746 winning effort. The Blugolds won a conference title in 1987 and have been runner-up four times, most recently in 1997 when they made their seventh NCAA post-season appearance. Herb had 17 winning seasons in succession until the Blugolds stumbled in 1998, finishing 14-18. Since 1998 the Blugolds have amassed a 93-39 record. She was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1997 and was also the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1997.
Herb's resume at Eau Claire, where she arrived in 1985, also includes the direction of the successful Blugold volleyball camps and clinics. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and director of academic programs in the department.
In her six years at Dubuque, Herb won an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 1982 when she was named the IIAC Coach of the Year as her team finished 46-5. Herb also coached track and softball for three years, was assistant basketball coach for two years and served as an assistant professor and assistant athletic director.
A native of Appleton, Herb played volleyball for four years at UW-La Crosse and was named All-State first team volleyball player in 1977. Herb has completed everything but her dissertation in pursuit of her doctorate from the University of Iowa.
