FOUR NAMED TO D3KICKS.COM ALL-CENTRAL REGION TEAM
EAU CLAIRE – Four members of the UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team have been named to the first-ever D3Kicks.Com All-Central Region Team, it was announced recently by the web service. Defenders Becky Westbrock (Sr.-Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) and Allison Smith (So.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) were named first and second team All-Region, respectively. Westbrock and Smith led a Blugold defense that has posted a school and conference record 18 shutouts en route to an impressive 0.38 goals against average to go along with 5.9 shots allowed per game. Westbrock recorded one goal, the first of her career, and three assists for five points while Smith added three assists for three points. Forward/midfielder Maria Iaizzo (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) earned second team honors. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year, Iaizzo scored 18 goals and 10 assists for a total of 46 points on the season. Iaizzo’s 18 goals and 46 points ranks second on the school’s single season records list for goals and point while her 10 assists rank third for most assists in a season. Iaizzo tallied nine game-winning goals and two hat tricks in 2006. Goalie Allie Rivard (So-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) was named third team All-Region. Rivard saved 48-of-51 shots faced in 1,392:35 allowing 0.19 goals per game and saving .941 percent of shots faced. Rivard was part of a team that produced a school and WIAC record 18 shutouts. Rivard also set the single-season record for goals allowed per game formerly held by Abby Rabinovitz of UW-Stevens Point of 0.23 set in 2000. D3Kicks.com is a web site launched this year whose goal “is to be the number one provider of division III soccer information to players, coaches and fans.”
