SOCCER RUNS RECORD TO 4-0

BLOOMINGTON, IL - A goal was finally scored on the UW-Eau Claire soccer team, but it still topped Illinois Wesleyan University 2-1 today.

The goal in question did not occur until the last five minutes of the game when the Titans were awarded a penalty kick, which Ashley Goergen put through. The game saw 13 Blugold fouls and 18 for the Titans. Both were season highs for fouls committed and fouls against for Eau Claire.

The score would not matter, however, due to a goal and an assist by Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN). At 10:18 in the first half, Kooistra dished a pass to Allison Muer (So.-Minneapolis, MN/South) who found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Kooistra then scored the unassisted difference-maker at the 64:13 mark in the second half.

Kooistra had four shots today with two on goal. Eau Claire had 13 shots and eight on goal for the entire game. The defense, with goalies Liz Weirick (Jr.-Kenosha/Tremper) and Allie Rivard (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata), allowed six shots with four on goal. The team had only allowed two shots on goal in the previous three games combined.

Next up for soccer is the first conference game of the year when they head to UW-La Crosse next Saturday.
